Elections of the General Chapter

At the General Chapter of the Carmelite Friars this morning, the Most Reverend Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., a member of the Betica Province in Spain, was re-elected to the office of Prior General for a period of six years. After the election, he received the fraternal greetings of all of the brothers present.

Following a break, the consultative and deliberative votation was taken for the office of Vice Prior General. The Very Reverend Christian Körner, O.Carm., a member of the German Province was re-elected for another six years.


The Chapter continued its deliberations after a break. Very Reverend Michael Farrugia, O.Carm., the Prior Provincial of the Maltese Province was elected as the Procurator General of the Order for the next sexennium.


Finally, the votation continued to its conclusion with the election of the Very Reverend Carl Markelz, O.Carm., Prior Provincial of the Province of Most Pure Heart of Mary who will serve as the Bursar General of the Order.


This concluded the elections for today. This evening, the capitulars will begin the discernment of the General Councilors by discussions in Regional meetings.
