A Meeting of the General Commission for Carmelite Laity and Youth

The members of the General Commission for Carmelite Laity and Youth met in Rome from April 24 – April 27, 2015 for the second time since being appointed. They are: Fr. Joseph Hung, O.Carm. (Curia), Jennifer Wanjikyu (Kenya), Normita Lacanilao (Philippines) Jose Araujo Filho (Brazil), Michele Bonanno (Italy), Juan Luia Laghi (Youth of Peru), Maria Jose Garcia de la Barrera (Youth of Spain). They met under the guidance of Fr. Raul Maraví, O. Carm., General Councilor.

As part of the visitation of the British Province and accompanied by Fr. John Keating, O. Carm., Councillor General for Europe, the Prior General celebrated a thanksgiving Eucharist on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the National Shrine of St. Jude in Faversham and of the various bodies linked to it.

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven. 

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
