From the 25th to the 30th of June, 2014, the members of the General Commission for Carmelite Laity held a meeting in Rome. Those who took part were, Fr. Désiré Unen, O.Carm. (Ita-Congo), Fr. Joseph Hung, O.Carm. (SEL-Vietnam), Jennifer Wanjiku (Kenya), Normita Lacanilao (Philippines), José Araujo Filho (Brazil), Michele Bonanno (Italy), Juan Luis Laghi (Young People in Perú), María José García de la Barrera (Young People in Spain), under the leadership of Fr. Raúl Maraví, O.Carm., Councillor General and President of this commission.

Novena of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

As the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is approaching, the Prior General has written a letter to the Carmelite family expressing his best wishes and inviting all members to celebrate the Feast, beginning with the Novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel from 7 to 15 of July 2014.  This custom of the Novena of Our Lady of Mount Carmel before the feast is a long tradition and is observed by many Catholics throughout the world.

8th Centenary of the death of Saint Albert of Jerusalem

Brussels celebration to mark the the 4th centenary of the death of Fr. Jerome Gracián.

Two new monasteries in Latin America

In the first few months of this year two new monasteries of Carmelite nuns have been founded. On the 19th of February the Congregation for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CIVCSVA) issued the decree of initiation of the foundation of the second monastery in Venezuela.

A Meeting of the two General Councils, O.Carm. and O.C.D.

On the 2nd of June, the bi-annual meeting of the two General Councils, O.Carm. and O.C.D. was held at our Curia house. The items that were discussed included some outstanding questions such as the restoration of the ruins in the Wadi (on which work is being done in different areas)  and the events that will be jointly celebrated to honour

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven.
