The Carmelite Nuns’ International On-Going Formation Course opened in Sassone (Rome) in a truly fraternal and ecclesial spirit with the self introduction of each participant.  Subsequently there was the rite of the blessing of the Icon of St Mary Magdalen de’ Pazzi, which had been commissioned from Sister Simona Nicita (monastery of San Giovanni la Punta, Italy). This Icon was presented to the Church as an invitation to service of the Mystery of the Love of God for humanity. It was carried in procession to the foot of the altar of the chapel, while the participants sang the Veni Creator, and this was followed by the celebration of the Eucharist.

Booklets for Prayer


For the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the birth of Santa Maria Maddalena de' Pazzi, the Maltese Carmelite Province is publishing a series of aids to be used in prayer. It is a series of five booklets entitled "Nitolbu ma' Santa Marija Maddalena de' Pazzi". The first volume, entitled "Meditazzjoni u Talb," was published on 2 April 2016, and presents to the public the method of meditation used by the saint and some prayers drawn from the complete works.

The Feast of St. Mary Magdalen de’Pazzi in Florence


On the 25th of May, the Prior General led the celebration of the Eucharist for the feast of St. Mary Magdalen de’Pazzi at the Hermitage of Santa Maria degli Angeli, in Scandicci (Florence). This monastery was founded n 1987 in the hills opposite where Careggi is situated where the remains of the saint are kept. Opening of the anniversary in the Maltese Province


Among the many initiatives carried out at the opening of the 450th anniversary of the birth of Saint Mary Magdalene de' Pazzi, we would like to highlight what took place in the Carmelite Province of Malta. On 2 April, the Maltese friars met for a day of retreat during which they opened the Magdalenian year with the ceremony of lighting lamps from the Easter candle. These lamps were then distributed to the communities of the Province where they celebrated the opening of the anniversary with the Christian and parrochial communities connected to Carmel.

On the 2nd of April, the date of Mary Magdalen’s birth in 1566, the solemn opening of the anniversary celebrations took place at the monastery of Careggi (Forence, Italy), where her body is venerated. The Cardinal Archbishop of Florence, Giuseppe Betori, led the celebration of the Eucharist that was concelebrated by several priests.
