Plenary Indulgences on account of the 450th Anniversary of the Birth of St. Mary Magdalen de’Pazzi


On account of the 450th anniversary of the birth of St. Mary Magdalen de’Pazzi, the Apostolic Penitentiary has granted that all Carmelite monasteries be places where people may obtain a plenary indulgence throughout this year, beginning on the 2nd of April, 2016 and ending on the 25th of May, 2017. The same applies to churches and chapels dedicated to her.

“La Chiesa Sposa” (The Church Bride): a new publication by Edizioni Carmelitane


Edizioni Carmelitane have just published the work entitled “La Chiesa Sposa” (The Church Bride) by Sister Mihaela Catana, a Carmelite nun of the monastery of Carpineto Romano. The sub-title, “Passione e visione per una ecclesiologia rinnovata in S. Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi” (Passion and Vision for a New Ecclesiology in St. Mary Magdalen de'Pazzi) gives a sense of the direction of the work.

On this coming 2nd of April, the date of the birth of Mary Magdalen de'Pazzi in 1566, there will be a solemn opening of this anniversary celebration. Along with some members of the Carmelite curia, the Prior General will concelebrate the Eucharist that will be celebrated at 10.30 in the monastery of Careggi, the place where her remains are kept. The Eucharist will be led by the Cardinal Archbishop of Florence, Giuseppe Betori. Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral will lead another celebration of the Eucharist in the monastery of Careggi at the same time on the 25th of May, the liturgical feast of St. Mary Magdalen de'Pazzi.

The Prior General’s Invitation to the Carmelite Family


On the 21st of December, 2015, the Prior General sent a letter to all the leaders of the Carmelite Family informing them of some of the events and initiatives that will be part of the celebrations of the 450th anniversary, and inviting all to think about setting up moments

A meeting of the Carmelite nuns in Italy for the purposes of formation and organisation

On the 25th and 26th of November, 2015, a meeting of eight nuns took place in the Carmelite house in Castellina, on the hills outside Florence. The nuns were from six Italian monasteries and they gathered to work with the Order’s commission charged with the events to be held to mark the 450 years since St. Mary Magdalen was born.
