Africa
The mission in Africa was initiated by the Carmelites of the Province of Ireland. The first place where Carmel was established was Zimbabwe. The first missionaries who went to do their work were: Donal Raymon Lamont, Anselm Corbett, and Luca Flynn. They left Ireland on 7 October 1946 to proclaim the Gospel and to spread Carmelite Spirituality. After Zimbabwe, other missions were opened, such as Congo in 1973, started by the Italian Province, Burkina Faso in 2000 by the Betica Province, Cameroon in 2001 by Lower Germany, Kenya in 2001 by Upper Germany with the help of the Arago-Valentina and Catalonia Provinces, Mozambique in 1998 by the Province of Pernambuco, and Tanzania in 2009 by the Commissariat of “La Bruna”.
