International Symposium on Climate Change and Justice

The German Catholic Bishops’ Organisation for Development Cooperation (Misereor) together with the Pontifical Justitia et Pax Council organized an International Symposium on Climate Change and Justice in the Vatican City, October 1st-3rd 2010.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Village, Philippines

On Friday 8th October the construction of 141 housing units was officially inaugurated and blessed in the Carmelite parish of St Isidore, Labrador, Philippines. This was one of the hardest hit regions of the Philippines coastline in the floods of 2009.

Inauguration of The Titus Brandsma Memorial

The winners of The Titus Brandsma JPIC Essay Competition 2009-2010 for Carmelite Students are:

  • First prize 1000 Euro: Bro. Glen Attard, O.Carm (Mel) writing on "Contemplation and globalization in a Carmelite perspective".
Activities of the Prior General

The Prior General Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., participated in the Pilgrimage of Hope for European Youth (citoc-online 65/2010), and in the course for formators of the Order in Camoçim, Brasil (citoc-online 74/2010). Later, accompanied by Fr. Josef Jancar, O. Carm., delegate to the Nuns, he presided at the Eucharist on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Monastery of San Giovanni La Punta (Sicily).

The General Chapter of the Carmelite Sisters of the Congregation of Putri Karmel was held from 2nd to 12th  August 2010 at Ngadireso Hermitage in Tumpang-Malang, Indonesia. The following were elected:
Superior General: Sr. Justini Kesuma, P.Karm.
Vice General I: Sr. Agata Maria, P.Karm.
Vice General II: Sr. Maria Petra, P.Karm.
1st Councilor: Sr. Maria Martina, P.Karm.
2nd Councilor: Sr. Maximilliane Soon, P.Karm.
3rd Councilor: Sr. Maria Skolastika, P.Karm.

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven. 

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
