Prayer before the Icon of Our Lady of Hope

Gentle Lady, Mary, Patron of Carmel,
You are the seat of wisdom and the joy of God's people.
Through the angel of the Annunciation
God called you to walk a pilgrimage of faith
that would lead you to Calvary, Easter and Pentecost.
In this our moment of pilgrimage,
we the young people of Europe now turn to you
that we may walk with one another in faith, hope and love.
As mother you care for each one of us,
tenderly keeping a watchful eye as we journey together.
Help us, as you did, to ponder the living Word of God
and respond to it with generous love.
Point us to Christ your Son, the true wisdom of God,
so that his glory may be revealed in our day
just as it was long ago in Cana of Galilee.
As our sister you are near to us,
present in our moments of uncertainty and fear.
You stood near to the cross of your Son on Calvary.
Stand with each one of us as we search for true wisdom
in the complexity of this world.
Be with us in the power of the Spirit as we gather in prayer.
Help us also to embrace the future without fear or anxiety,
as we walk with Jesus on the path of Christian hope.
We too are pilgrims on the journey of life,
needing the true light, power and wisdom that comes from God,
through Christ, your Son and our Lord. Amen.
As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven.

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
