Eucharist – Carmelite Churches Online

"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
lives in me and I live in them.
As the living Father serves me and I draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me will draw life from me."
(Jn 6:56-57)

Church buildings might be closed in some places. However, the Church itself is not. Especially in our homes – the “Domestic Church” – it is a time to rediscover the practice of prayer together as a family or on our own.  It is an opportunity to read the Scriptures.
Carmel also continues to gather for prayer. In many of our Carmelite Churches, the Eucharist continues to be celebrated, even if it is not public.
While many of us are no longer physically present to each other, we can still be linked over the internet as a praying community in spiritual communion with one another.
If possible for us, we are encouraged to share in the Eucharist by spiritual communion. Listed below are some of the Carmelite Churches which are broadcasting and streaming Mass online.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,
Come in whatever way you choose into my heart.
As though You have already come,
I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You;
never permit me to be separated from You.

When the priest says “the Body of Christ”, we say “amen”:
but let it be an “amen” that comes from the heart,
a committed one.
It is Jesus;
it is Jesus who saved me;
it is Jesus who comes
to give me the strength to live.
It is Jesus, the living Jesus.”

Pope Francis, 23rd June 2019

“Dedicate yourself a quarter of an hour to thanksgiving
after Holy Communion
and maintain yourself in peace,
united to our dear Jesus,
without trying to say a great number of prayers.
One word suffices: Love.”

Venerable Augustine Mary of the Blessed Sacrament (Hermann Cohen), OCD

As Carmelites We live our life of allegiance to Jesus Christ and to serve Him faithfully with a pure heart and a clear conscience through a commitment to seek the face of the living God (the contemplative dimension of life), through prayer, through fraternity, and through service (diakonia). These three fundamental elements of the charism are not distinct and unrelated values, but closely interwoven.

All of these we live under the protection, inspiration and guidance of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, whom we honor as "our Mother and sister."
