The history of the Carmelites in Paraná begins with the history of Ulrich Goevert, a member of the Upper German Province. He went to Brazil in 1936, and joined up with the work of the Carmelites in the Northeast. After fifteen years he set out from there to begin a mission of his own in line with a project of his province that took shape in Paranavaí.
As time went by the Province of Upper Germany sent more and more friars to the mission in Paranavaí. On the 20th of October 2012 the Carmelite Order through the offices of the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., handed over responsibility for the Carmelite Order in this region to the Brazilian friars, by erecting here a General Commissariat. At present the General Commissariat has 30 friars who work in Brazil and Italy.

In 1580 four Carmelites, including Fr. Domingos Freire, from Portugal arrived in Pernambuco with the expedition of Captain Fructuoso Barbosa and eventually made a foundation in Olinda. As new recruits arrived, houses were opened in Bahia, Santos, and Rio de Janeiro. In 1595 these became the Vice Province of Brazil. At present the Province of Rio de Janeiro has about 72 religious working in Brazil, and Venezuela. The first Carmelite foundation was made in 1580 in Olinda, Pernambuco. Other foundations were made throughout Brazil and a century later, in 1685, the vast vicariate of Brazil was divided into the vicariates of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia-Pernambuco. These in turn became provinces in 1720. Some of the houses of the Bahia-Pernambuco Province embraced the Stricter Observance and these in 1744 were constituted a Province with the title "Pernambuco".
At present the Province of Pernambuco has about 111 religious working in the United States and Mozambique.

In 1971, the General Chapter approved the establishment of an international group of friars, who would live in Colombia, to promote the Carmelite way of life and foster vocations in Latin America. On 28 June 1973 the community of Bogota was canonically erected by the General Council.
After many changes in personnel within the community, the General Council, on 14 November 1986 erected it as a General Delegation, with the title "Titus Brandsma". At present the Delegation has a house in Bogota and another one in Medellín, and has 4 religious.

In 1336 the Vicariate of Perpignan was erected from the Province of Spain, also called Aragon. In 1339 it appears as the Vicariate of Perpignan and Majorca. In 1342 it was raised to the status of Province with the name Majorca; from 1354 it bore its present name. Together with the other houses in Spain, the Province was suppressed by the secular authorities in 1835.
The Province of Spain was reinstated in 1890 and with the restoration and foundation of convents in other parts and was once more divided into the traditional Provinces. In 1932 the Commissariat General of Catalonia was separated from the Province of Arago-Valentine; in 1950 it once again became a Province. At present the Province of Catalonia has about 30 religious working in Catalonia (Spain), Venezuela, Kenya, Italy.

The first house was opened in Andalusia in Gibraleón (1306 - 1320) by the Infantes de la Cerda. From there, the Carmelites made a foundation in Seville (1358) under the patronage of King D. Pedro I. Later on, in the vicinity of the capital, they opened the convent of Escacena del Campo (Huelva) in 1416, and Ecija (Seville) in 1425. In 1498 these four houses were detached from the Province of Castile, to form a new Province. At present the Province of Betica has about 79 religious working in Spain, Venezuela and Burkina Faso.
