A new center for the diffusion of Carmelite Spirituality, under the name, Terrra Carmeli was opened in Rome on the 16th of April. It is located in the chapel beside the church of Santa Maria in Traspontina in Via della Conciliazione. Responsibility for the completion of this initiative, which had been spoken about for a long time, was entrusted by the Italian Province of Carmelites to Fr. Giuseppe Midili, O.Carm. The centre offers to pilgrims on their way to St. Peter’s Basilica, a series of canvas panels in four languages that present a walk through Carmelite history, tradition and spirituality. Brochures are available in five languages on the history of Carmel, its missions, some of its saints, its marian spirituality and its scapular devotion.

On the occasion of the forthcoming beatification of Pope John Paul II particular attention is given to the numerous messages that he addressed to the Carmelite Order. Brochures in five languages are on hand to give Blessed John Paul’s reflections on Carmelite spirituality They also contain a picture of him wearing the Scapular. In addition to that some of the liturgical objects that he used when celebrating the Eucharist in Carmelite parishes in Rome are on display.
