Carmel is celebrating and thanking God for the gift of the Beatification of Fr. Angelo Paoli. This morning, 25th April 2010 during a solemn Eucharist in the Papal Arch-basilica of St. John Latern in Rome presided over by the Vicar of His Holiness, Cardinal Agostino Vallini, the representative of the Holy Father and Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Archbishop Angelo Amato, presided at the rite of Beatification.
Many members of the Carmelite Family fittingly represented many other sisters and brothers who were unable to come to Rome. Together with the bishops, concelebrating were the Prior General, Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, O.Carm., the Councillor General for Europe, Fr. John Keating, O.Carm, the Prior Provincial of the Italian Province, Fr. Giandomenico Meloni, O.Carm. and a large number of Carmelite friars. Also present was the Carmelite bishop, Mons. Filippo Iannone, bishop of Sora-Aquino-Pontecorvo and Fr. Joseph Chalmers, O.Carm., former Prior General.
Ceremonies began with a prayer vigil for the Carmelite Family and numerous pilgrims from the birthplace of Blessed Angelo and from the Diocese of Massa Carrara-Pontremoli. Blessed Angelo, who in his service of God, the poor and the sick gave us an example of love, help us to grow in love for those in greatest need.
