The second chapter of the General Commissariat of St. Therese and St. Albert was held in Asirbhavan, Ernakulam, Kerala, India from February 13-18, 2023. "Hopeful walking to the plans of  God" (Jer. 29:11) was the theme of the chapter. 

Among those attending were the prior general Miceal O' Neill, general councilor Robert Thomas Puthusery, and 30 members of the commissariat working in Inda and abroad.

Some Indian Discalced Carmelites of the Latin rite, with permission of their superiors, asked that they might enter the Carmelite Order. On October 27, 2011, the General Delegation was canonically established. On September 3, 2019, the prior general, with the consent of the general council of the Order, instituted the General Commissariat of St. Teresa of Jesus and St. Albert of Jerusalem. According to the 2019 Status Ordinis, the Commissary has five houses in India and one in Germany.

The members of the Province of St. Thomas in India held their 6th chapter from February 5-10, 2023, in Thrissur, Kerala, in India.

It was an open chapter attended by the prior general of the Order, Miceal O'Neill, Robert Thomas Puthussery, the General Councilor for Asia-Australia-Oceania, and 66 members of the province working in India and abroad.

"Go Out and Stand on the Mountain Before the Lord" (1Kg 19:11) was the theme of the Chapter.

The Province of St. Thomas has its beginnings in the 1973 provincial chapter of the former Upper German Province. The decision was made to invite candidates from India to study in Bamberg, Germany. In 1982 the first house was canonically erected in India. In 1993, the area became a provincial commissariat. By 2000, the commissariat had been so blessed with vocations tha the Indian Carmelites went to Kenya to help establish the Order. In 2007 the new province of St. Thomas in India was established and was institutes on July 16th, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The members belong to the Syro-Malabar Rite of the Church.

On February 7, the Monastery Sagrado Corazón y San Titus Brandsma, in Córdoba, Spain, held its elective chapter.

This monastery was founded in 1985 by the Federation "Mater et Decor Carmeli" of the Betica Province of Spain. From its foundation it is intended to be the Federal House, providing a common formation program at the service of all the monasteries of the Federation. It is the seat of the Federal President and is the seat of courses of Initial and Permanent Formation.

The members of the Province of Fluminis Januarii held their chapter from January 23-27, 2023, in the retreat house of São Carlos a Jundiá in São Paolo, Brasil.

The theme of the gathering was “Carmel –a Passion for God, for Humanity, and for the Brotherhood—in a World in Transformation.” Fraternity and mission were key themes of the Chapter.

The province was founded by Carmelites from Portugal. In 1595 the vice-province of Brazil was erected, consisting of four houses: Olinda (1583), Bahia (1586), Santos (1589) and Rio de Janeiro (1590). In 1720, the province was erected from the vice-province of “Estado do Brasil,” being separated from Bahia-Pernambuco.

Because of the political situation, most of the houses belonging to religious orders in Brazil were forced to close in the 19^th century. However, from 1894 the Spanish Carmelites came to restore the province. In 1904 the Dutch Province undertook the restoration. Having reunited with the Province of Bahia for a decade, the Fluminis Januarii Province was re-established in 1962 and placed under the protection of St. Elias the Prophet.

The Carmelite community of Janua Coeli Monastery in Cerreto di Sorano (GR), Italy, celebrated its Elective Chapter on January 17, 2023.

The monastery was established on May 19, 1992, by nuns from the Carpineto Romano community.  Its canonical erection was on September 8, 2000. The Province of Pernambuco, serving in northern Brasil and Mozambique, held their provincial chapter on January 16-20, 2023.

The first house of the Order in the Americas was founded in the city of Olinda (Pernambuco), in 1583, by priests from the Province of Lusitania (Portugal). In 1720, two provinces were simultaneously established in Brazil, namely: Rio de Janeiro and Bahia-Pernambuco. From the year 1679 the Pernambucan convent of Goiana (founded in 1666) had accepted the Reform of Touraine. This reform movement eventually led to the establishment of the autonomous province of Pernambuco. In 1683 the Prior General Angelus Monsignani decided that the convents of Recife (founded in 1654) and Vila Real (which was later succeeded by Paraiba) would be handed over to the Carmelites of the Reform. In 1725 a vice-province was instituted and in 1744 the province of Pernambuco was canonically established, having three convents, six residences and about one hundred brothers. The religious and political conflicts of the 19th century severely affected the province.

As the seed for a new birth, the convent in Recife remained until, in 1894, the brothers from Spain arrived to begin the work of restoration. Goiana reopened, Gameleira (1920) and Princesa (1938), Campina Grande (1951) and Camocim de Saint Felix (1962) were founded. In 1990, the old convent of Piedade, now restored, was designated the House of Formation as many young men came to join the province as a result of the focus of the province over the years on vocational ministry. Five new houses opened: Petrolina (1998), Carmopolis (2000), Aracaju (2002), and Icó (2011). The São Cristóvão convent, founded in the 17th century, was handed over to the Province by the Archdiocese of Aracaju to be inhabited by the Carmelites again.

In 2002, a house was opened in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, with a second house founded in 2019 in Matola. In 2012, the original church and monastery in Olinda was restored to the Province.

The General Chapter of the Carmelite Missionary Sisters took place from January 2 to 8, in Cajazeiras - PB, northeast Brazil. The theme was "Hand in Hand, on the Way, Toward the Fountains of First Love" and the Motto "Lord Give Me This Water" (Jn. 4:15).

On Thursday, November 24, 2022, voting for leadership took place during the second Chapter of the Commissariat of St. Joseph of the St. Elias Province in Vietnam. 

The Province established houses in Vietnam in 1996, 2001, and 2008. The Commissariat was established during the Provincial Chapter of 2019. There are currently 60 members in Vietnam.

Thirty-two Carmelites from Australia and Timor-Leste gathered in Melbourne, Australia, this week for the triennial Provincial Chapter meeting. The prior general, Miċeál O'Neill, also participated in the gathering.

The Chapter comes at the end of an 18-month consultation process looking at the needs and hopes of the Carmelites and our ministries in the future as well as the realities we face in the present.

In 1881 five members of the Irish Province went to Australia to establish the Order. Five years later the Australian commisariat was established but ended two years later although the foundation continued. On March 22, 1930, a general commissariat was established, expanding to have houses in Coorparoo, Queensland (1937) and Donvale (1937). On September 13, 1948, the Australian province was canonical erected. A foundation was made in New Zealand following year, lasting until 1970.

At the Provincial Chapter of 2001, the Australian Province agreed to accept responsibility for the Carmelite presence begun by the Indonesian Province in Timor-Leste. Three years later a novitiate was opened in Fatuhada, Dili. A month later, in late September 2004, the name of the province was officially change to “Province of Australia and Timor-Leste.”

From October 17 to 22 the Assembly for the Mater Unitatis Federation of Carmelite nuns was held at the Casa de Espiritualidad "Santos Ángeles" of the Hermanas Angélicas in the city of Zaragoza, Spain.

The Federation was canonically erected on December 10, 1980 and comprises the enclosed monasteries of Caudete, Fontiveros, Huesca Asuncion, Huesca San Miguel, Madrid, Onteniente, Valencia, and Zaragoza.
