As we reported (citoc-online 45/2014) the General Council of the Carmelites and the General Definitory of the Discalced Carmelites decided to call for a special collection in the their respective communities on the 12th of October, 2014, to support the restoration and conservation of the ruins of the first Carmelite foundation on Mount Carmel in Israel. On account of this, the two General Leaders sent a letter in September 2014 to Provincials and other leaders, Mothers of Federations, Prioresses of monasteries, Superiors General of affiliated congregations as well as to the leaders of the Carmelite Third Order and the Secular Discalced Carmelites and other groups of lay Carmelites, asking for help. (citoc-online 74/2014). Some communities or monasteries, held the collection on dates that better suited their own situation in the different countries.
Now we are able to report, with great satisfaction, that the campaign has been closed and that it brought in Euro 56,866 which will be added to what was collected by the Discalced Carmelites. The two General Leaders and their respective councils would like to thank all the provinces, communities, monasteries and lay communities and individuals, who contributed so generously to the campaign, which, without doubt, will help greatly in maintaining and improving the place where the Carmelite Family has its roots.
