January 8 Feast
INTRODUCTORY RITES
May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, that peace to which all of you are called as one body.
Always be thankful. Col 3:15
Where today is celebrated as a Feast, The Gloria is said.
COLLECT
Let us pray
[that we may give ourselves, in faith,
to the work of peace and unity]
Pause for silent prayer
Lord,
you inspired in your bishop St Peter Thomas an intense desire
to promote peace and Christian unity.
Following his example
may we live steadfast in the faith
and work perseveringly for peace.
Through our Lord.
Where today is celebrated as a Feast the readings are proper: see The Carmelite Lectionary p. 5. Elsewhere they will normally be those of the current weekday, though the proper readings, or others from the Common of Pastors, may be used if preferred.
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
Father,
in your mercy fill our hearts with the warmth of your love.
Through these holy mysteries bring us to unity and peace.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.
Where today is celebrated as a Feast, Preface of Pastors, p. 141. Elsewhere the Preface may be seasonal, or of Pastors.
COMMUNION RITE
Because there is one bread we, though many, are one body, for we all share in the one loaf. 1Cor 10:17
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Let us pray.
Pause for silent prayer, if this has not preceded.
Lord God,
by the power of this mystery increase among us, your servants, that peace and unity
for which St Peter Thomas labored all his life.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
